The Moiano Blog Tour

When An from Straight Grain asked me to join the blog tour for her new sewing pattern, The Moiano coat , I was super thrilled! This pattern is very well drafted and the instructions will take you step by step until you complete your gorgeous new coat.

This coat is available in both paper and PDF format and it includes sizes 1y to 12y. I'm completely in love with this coat and I'm also thinking about making one for my son, with a couple modifications. Maybe I'll make it without the pleats and peter pan collar. If I do make one, I'll post it here.

Anyway, for this coat I had a really had time deciding between the peter pan collar and a hoodie, so I decided to do both. Why not? Right? :D

I sewed the peter pan collar on the coat and I made the hoodie removable, by adding a 1.5" tab all along the base of the hoodie and attaching it to the coat with buttons. See picture below.

I love how it turned out and I like to have the option of wearing it with a hoodie or without. What do you think?

To make this coat, I used a gorgeous red cotton fabric from Cloud9fabrics I found at my local Joann's fabrics store, a variety of wooden buttons (my favorite!). For the lining I used a super cute cotton fabric from my local Hobby Lobby. I love the combination of colors and I also like the fact that the lining coordinates perfectly with the outer fabric. That was completely unplanned! I also added a patch on the left sleeve, just to give it something unique and a pop of contrast color.

This is what the coat looks like inside:

I wish I took more pictures of all the little details of the coat, but we ran out of time and daylight. This coat is seriously designed to perfection. Outstanding job An!

As you can see on the picture below, I added welted pocket to this coat. With this pattern, you have the option of adding patch pockets or welted pockets.

On the sleeve tabs, I added wooden buttons as an accent and on one of the tabs I used a wooden apple button, that just stole my heart as soon as I saw it. It came in a bag with mixed wooden buttons I found at my local fabric store.

This is what the coat looks like without the hoodie. I like both with and without it. Which one is your favorite look?

For this photoshoot, we went to the lake that is a few minutes away from our house and I just let my daughter play with the sand while I snapped a few pictures. The coat did get a little dirty, but I didn't mind it at all. I love to see her having fun and enjoying nature. :)

I hope you have enjoyed my blog post and review. If you would like to purchase this pattern, An is offering a 10% off with the code MOIANOTOUR10.
