More knit shorts. This time with ruffles!!!

Remember the Chevron knit shorts tutorial?

Well, I liked them so much, that I made more :)  But this time I added some ruffles. They are very comfortable and my little girl loves them!

mustard stripey ruffle shorts

charmeuse and teal ruffle shorts.

This is how they look on my daughter:

I liked these stripey shorts so much, that I even made her a matching tank top, out of a long sleeve shirt she already had. The best part is that I only spend about $3 on the entire outfit!

By the way, the ivory ruffle on the shorts is made out of the white selvage from the stripey fabric. I just like to use everything I can. I think it looks great!

Let me know if you would like to do a tutorial on the tank top.

Sewing with Knits--Frustration Free!

After sewing with knits for quite a while now, I've learned a few of tips of what makes sewing with knits, a frustration free experience. Today, I'm going to share those tips with you.

Let's start with the technical stuff. To sew knits, you will at least need:

-a sewing machine that can do different stitches (zig-zag or straight stitch)
-double needles (ball point work best, but regular ones work too!)
-a walking foot

Optional:
-a serger (which cuts the sewing time in half, when working with knits!)
