The Ziggy Top Challenge

The Ziggy top is a really cool and simple pattern from Made It Patterns, which features a boxy silhouette and an oversized relaxed fit.
The pattern is beautifully drafted and it comes with clear step-by-step pictures and even includes a tutorial for painting the design on the cover photo. The pattern comes in sizes 2y-10y, so you would be able to get plenty of use from it!
This pattern was originally designed for jersey knit fabrics, but since Spring is here, I wanted to make a top that was more appropriate for warmer weather. Maybe later, I will make another Ziggy top with Jersey knit fabric.

Anyway, Olu, from Needle and Ted and Made It Patterns, invited me and a few other talented bloggers, to participate on a challenge in which we had to add unique detail to the Ziggy top. Whoever wins gets 2 of their awesome patterns (fingers crossed!).

For this challenge, I decided not to make one, but 2 Ziggy tops! Since this pattern is appropriate for both boys and girls, it was the perfect opportunity to make one for my son too. It is hard to find patterns that my son likes, and this one is just perfect for him.

For my son's Ziggy top, I downsized to size 7 (he usually wears 8) to have a less oversized look. I also choses Kona cotton fabric for his top. I wanted it to have a cool Spring retro look, so I chose to use solid colors. At first I was just thinking of making it in solid light blue, but then I decided to add some white accents to the top. I'm in love with the end look!

Catching up! and Boy shirts

Sorry it has been very quiet over here. Lately I've had a difficult time keeping up with my blog. It seems like there is always something I need to do and jut forget about writing a blog post.

I've been sewing a lot! I've also had the opportunity to test patterns for some of my favorite designers (more on this on the next posts).

On this post, I would like to share some of the shirts I recently made for my son. For some reason, I'm more inclined to sew girls clothes than boys clothes. There are also a lot more sewing patterns available for girls, than for boys. But that is something I would like to change, because I don't think it's fair for boys.

Do you agree??

For  that reason, I decide to sew some fun shirts for my son to wear! I started looking at the fabric I had, and thought it would be fun to mix and match the different fabrics to make these shirts. I also drew the pattern for this shirts and used an existing shirt in my sons closet for reference.

Here are the shirts I made:

Aren't they fun?! I loved how they turned out and also liked how the pocket gave it a more classic look. I think I will be making more of this style of shirts in the near future :D

My son loved the shirts! Can you tell? :)

Thanks for visiting my blog. Come back soon!

Sewing with Knits--Frustration Free!

After sewing with knits for quite a while now, I've learned a few of tips of what makes sewing with knits, a frustration free experience. Today, I'm going to share those tips with you.

Let's start with the technical stuff. To sew knits, you will at least need:

-a sewing machine that can do different stitches (zig-zag or straight stitch)
-double needles (ball point work best, but regular ones work too!)
-a walking foot

Optional:
-a serger (which cuts the sewing time in half, when working with knits!)
