More knit shorts. This time with ruffles!!!

Remember the Chevron knit shorts tutorial?

Well, I liked them so much, that I made more :)  But this time I added some ruffles. They are very comfortable and my little girl loves them!

mustard stripey ruffle shorts

charmeuse and teal ruffle shorts.

This is how they look on my daughter:

I liked these stripey shorts so much, that I even made her a matching tank top, out of a long sleeve shirt she already had. The best part is that I only spend about $3 on the entire outfit!

By the way, the ivory ruffle on the shorts is made out of the white selvage from the stripey fabric. I just like to use everything I can. I think it looks great!

Let me know if you would like to do a tutorial on the tank top.

  3. Can you tell me how you get the ruffle attached at the bottom without the fabric stretching and buckleing ? I have a walking foot but I still cant get these awesome results. TIA

    1. Hi Holly Bowers, try pining the ruffles to the fabric and make sure not to stretch the fabric as you sew. The walking foot helps a lot, but the key is to not stretch the fabric.
You can also try using a piece of wash-away stabilizer on the bottom of you fabric. That will reduce the stretch as you sew.
Another thing you can try is reduce the tension of you machine and lengthen the stitch length. This will help with the buckleing.

I hope you find this helpful. Let me know if you have other questions.
