Top Knot Tour- Pattern Hack!

When Gabriella invited me to participate on the Top Knot Tour and saw the themes, I knew I had to choose the "pattern hack". It was so fun to use this pattern to make something slightly different, while preserving the same elements.

From the start, I knew I wanted to make a knit version and I wanted it to have a drop waist. I folded the front bodice pattern piece and folded it on the "fold line", skipping the placket extension and cut my bodice on the fold, so it wouldn't have a front center seam or placket. I also skipped the shoulder pleats. I wanted it to have a relaxed fit and few seams, kind of like a t-shirt style.

I extended the front and back bodice by 2" to give a drop waist look. and added a simple gathered rectangle at the bottom, to make it look like a drop waist dress. On the neckline, I kept the shape intact and just added a 1" knit binding all around it.

For the sleeves, I cut straight up, leaving just about 1cm of the shoulder curve intact. Then I attached a 1 inch folded binding to each armhole. I wanted it to look like it was short sleeved.

Overall, it was very quick to sew and I had a lot of fun making it.

Make sure you check out the other talented bloggers on the tour and enter the giveaway Gabriella Longfish is hosting. Also, if you would like to purchase the pattern, Gabriella is offering a 20% off discount with the code: tkt20 , ending July 1st, 2016.
