Chevron Knit Shorts Tutorial

Today I'm going to show you how to sew a pair of comfy knit shorts, for that special little girl in your life (or yourself!).
Knit shorts!

Since I wanted to make a pair of shorts that were not too lose, I traced a pair of leggings that fit well on my daughter and I made a pattern out of it.

Step 1. Trace front and back of a pair of legging or shorts that fit well and cut them out, with the desired length (or use the pattern of your choice and omit this step). Make sure to add seam allowance to your pattern.

Step 2. Pin the pattern pieces on the fabric and cut 2 front pieces and 2 back pieces (I used less than 1/2 a yard to make these shorts size 2T).

This is what the front and back pieces look like after being cut. I'm making 2 pairs. Don't you just love these colors?! I do!

Step 3. Pin back pieces together  along the center seam (right sides together) . Do the same with the 2 front pieces (Make sure you don't pin a front with a back piece)

Step 4. Serge or sew the center seam of both front pieces and back pieces.

Step 5. Now pin the 2 front pieces and  the 2 back pieces along the side seams, with right sides together.

Step 6. Sew the crotch seam (still right sides together).

Step 7. Now, to hem the shorts and create the casing for the elastic, fold the bottom and top edges of the shorts and pin in place. Then turn the garment right side out, to sew with the double needles.

Step 8. Sew the hem with the double needles, with the right side out.
Also sew the casing the same way, but leave a space to insert the elastic. Sew the two ends of the elastic together and sew the casing closed.

That's it! You're done!!!
